Sample Workshops: Mindfulness & Nature Experiences
Reconnect, reflect, and restore through guided mindfulness experiences designed for adults. These sample workshops demonstrate how mindfulness and the restorative power of nature can be integrated into learning, wellness, and personal growth. Participants explore:
Mindfulness fundamentals – what it is, why it matters, and how it supports mental health.
Breathing and grounding exercises – including alternate nostril breathing, box breathing, and the 5-4-3-2-1 sensory grounding technique.
Mindful walking in nature – using trails as a space to connect with the senses, notice patterns, and practice presence.
Guided meditations and body scans – adaptable for indoor or outdoor settings, helping participants release tension and increase body awareness.
Visual mindfulness practices – using a curated mindfulness photo book to support reflection, visualization, and calm.
Journaling and discussion – creating space for participants to reflect, share, and integrate insights.
These workshops are immersive yet accessible, suitable for individuals, small groups, or community programs. Each session provides tools that can be carried beyond the workshop, helping participants integrate mindfulness and nature-based practices into daily life.
Materials Provided: Participants receive a journal, a digital copy of the mindfulness photo book, and guidance for outdoor practice. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring water, snacks, and any personal gear needed for outdoor activities.
Customizable Offerings: Workshops can be tailored to meet the goals of organizations, groups, or retreats, blending experiential learning, discussion, and mindfulness practices to create a transformative experience.
Alternate nostril breathing is a simple yet powerful practice that balances the nervous system, calms the mind, and increases focus. By gently closing one nostril at a time and breathing slowly and evenly through the other, you can release tension, regulate energy, and cultivate a sense of inner calm. This technique is perfect for grounding before or during mindfulness walks and outdoor experiences.
Alternate Nostril Breathing
Box Breathing
Box breathing is a structured breathing exercise that helps reduce stress and enhance mental clarity. Inhaling, holding, exhaling, and pausing for equal counts — often four seconds each — creates a “box” rhythm that encourages relaxation, focus, and presence. Practicing box breathing during outdoor mindfulness sessions can help you tune into your body and surroundings, anchoring attention in the present moment.
School Mindfulness & Career Presentation

In this interactive presentation, Diana Lapp, LCSW, shares her personal journey as a social worker and the path that led her to her career. Students gain insight into the social work profession, including the skills, challenges, and rewards of this meaningful work.
The session concludes with a guided mindfulness activity, giving students practical tools to manage stress, focus, and build self-awareness. This combination of career exploration and experiential learning provides a unique opportunity for students to connect with their own personal growth while learning about helping professions.
